I have written a couple of guides, PMP Certification Requirements and PMP Certification Beginner’s Guide, and I have pretty much explained the whole process of starting PMP journey and including PMP exam cost.
But still, I receive a few emails now and then, asking about PMP Certification Cost.
So for those aspirants who specifically want to know about exam Fee, this post might be handy.
Before diving into real exam fee, I’ll point to the indirect fee associated with PMP exam.
There is normally two kind of cost involve for PMP Certification:
- Direct Cost
- Indirect Cost
Direct Cost: is PMI’s fee for the certification, and that varies for Member’s and Non-Member’s, we will talk about that later in the article.
Indirect Cost: is exam preparation, PDU’s, Books, Training materials etc etc.
Let’s first talk about indirect cost of PMP Certification:
If I skip books and other preparatory material and focus only on PMP Certification Trainings, which are focused and designed to help you earn the 35 pdu’s or contact hours considered necessary for the exam application.
I can broadly categories these trainings into three:
- Online Trainings
- Offline Trainings (Boot Camps)
- Freelance Trainings
Online Trainings: The trainings that has already been recorded and uploaded on a server and either you are allowed to view the training materials online or in some cases options to be downloaded to your computer.
Cost: 100$ to 500$
Country: Not country specific, cost is normally same for everyone regardless of location.
Offline Trainings or Boot Camps: These trainings are normally conducted in a class room and can be taken individually but normally it’s targeted towards group.
Cost: 250$ to 1500$
Country: Country specific, could be high or low.
FFreelance Trainings: The type of training that is provided by individuals and it could be boot camp offline or online sessions via skype. Like myself. I do provide live Skype training to individuals and groups.
If you are interested to take a course with me, you can send me a message directly here:
Cost: 500$ to 1000$
Country: Depends on individuals and groups, can be more or less and also country specific.
Now let’s look at the direct cost of PMP Certification:
PMI is not concerned whether you took an online course or bootcamp or a course from freelancer or use books or materials or what ever, that is your cost and your problem, they are only concerned with the criteria and exam cost that have been set, and they have divided the exam fee into two major:
PMP Certification Cost for
PMP Certification Cost for Non-Member’s
To sum up PMP Certification Cost 2013 is not exactly 405 $ or 555$ but infact if you add other costs associated with the certification, it could easily cross 1000$.
But we can say for sure that one has to pay the direct cost no matter what, while indirect cost may vary, it’s avoidable and can also be decreased as well, but depends, can increase at times.
